Paths cross for a reason

“Everything happens for a reason”

Let’s call this story time 🙂

A couple weekends ago I went to Queens, New York with a friend for a family fish fry. An hour into being there an accident happened right in front of the house we were staying in. I mean literally in the yard. Apparently, some teenagers stole a truck and lost control of it and came up on the sidewalk. Everything was fine, minus hitting one car, until they tried to speed off the sidewalk and smashed into the fire hydrant pole. smh.

My friends were right in front of it all, while I sat on the couch close to the door and window painting my toes. I was told it looked like the car was going to crash right into the window, but the fence stopped it. Talk about Jesus be a fence!

Once I heard the crash I ran to open the door, car in the lawn, and what looked like a million kids were running out of this car. Not going to lie, I thought they were about to start shooting, that’s how man kids it was in this car running in every direction.

Next thing I know, my friends cousin is in his car chasing after them. He ends up catching one of the kids in the car. The young girl he caught was clearly scared out of her mind. Her story was they were going to a party and she was getting dropped off. Her bag was left in the car after she ran and she was sleep in the back and thrown to the front by the impact.

Fast forwarding past all the in between drama, my friends cousin ended up not turning her into the police. She really just seemed like she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hey maybe she was lying and she knew the car was stolen or maybe she was heading to the party, who knows but that’s none of my business. I did however, start a conversation with her while we were basically hiding her from the police. In the beginning, I was just being nosy but our conversation turned into something real.

She was 17, and the guys in the car were supposed to be like her brothers. So I asked her, have they tried to call or text to see where you are? Answer: No. Did they try to get you out the car because from my view you were the last one out? Answer: No, they didn’t even wake me up. I flat out told her, these dudes aren’t your friends, they don’t care about you and they for sure aren’t your brothers. I moved on further to find out what her plans are for her future and to my surprise she wants to go to Harvard and study journalism.

I say all this to say, people are placed in your life for a reason. Although this wasn’t the best way but I feel that God said she needed to talk to me to move past this. I’m honestly not the type to just walk up to someone and talk to them I like I did her, but something pushed me to just encourage her. Maybe it was her scared young face, or maybe it was the fact when we called her parents they didn’t even care to come and pick her, their advise was to give her to the police. Whatever it was I just hope and pray I got through to her. I hope that she realizes she has to make better choices for herself if Harvard is the goal.

I can never understand a family giving up on a child, but I know it happens, so I told her to exchange numbers with me. I wanted her to know there was someone, even though we live in different states, that cares about her. I want to see her do great things and not hanging with  people that put her bad situations and then leave her.

A lot of time adults give up on our youth and that’s one reason why our youth doesn’t care about ANYTHING.

Keep loving our youth cravers,

Man…that’s so tragic but its so much truth to what you told her. Its hard to learn those lessons about friendship and love and support but it has to be done. Good thing she had a beautiful, kindhearted and intelligent Queen to put her up on game. Opportunities come at the strangest times and in the strangest forms.

yes it’s so tragic how our youth really doesn’t have guidance. As I was talking to her and I thought about all the dumb things I did at her age and how my life could be like hers but I always had someone looking out for me. I’m grateful for this opportunity to be a listening ear.
